During production, attention is always paid to the highest quality. Nevertheless, the material can show slight wear on stressed edges over time. To enjoy your bags for a long time - treat them lovingly and carefully. On worn edges and corners, shoe polish in the respective color can help to refresh the color.
about products
There is a rumor that cork is scarce – a misconception that stems from the fact that wine corks are used less frequently. In fact, cork production is not suffering from a shortage. The Portuguese cork industry is state-monitored and regulated, and cork is one of the country's most important economic sectors. So where does the myth of the scarcity of cork come from? The wine industry decided to switch to glass stoppers or metal and plastic screw caps for cost reasons, justifying this, among other things, with an alleged scarcity of cork. It could almost be described as a PR move. For me, however, it was a stroke of luck, because this “crisis” resulted in a large surplus of cork bark – which enabled the development of new products such as the unique cork leather.
After the harvest, the bark of the cork oak is piled up outside and exposed to sun, wind and rain for six months to allow the cork to mature and stabilize. It is then steamed in hot water to clean it and make it more flexible. The cork is then pressed into blocks, cut into wafer-thin layers and applied to a textile carrier material such as cotton. This is how the velvety soft and flexible cork leather is made. Our desk pads are particularly popular and are ideal for children to use as painting surfaces, appealing to boys and girls alike.
Cork has a pleasantly soft and warm surface that feels similar to smooth leather. The key difference: cork has a noticeably warmer feel than leather.
The cork leather is dyed throughout so that the color is not just superficial and does not rub off. So you can sit down on the carpet with your white jeans without any worries. Incidentally, cork is dyed extremely gently with certified, water-based dyes, which also makes it easy to care for.
Cork is extremely robust in every respect. The soft and elastic surface is characterized by high friction resistance and is also flame-retardant. The cork leather used for the top layer is even tear-resistant and is therefore often used in furniture and clothing. This hard-wearing wear layer also makes it possible to use carpets in high-traffic areas such as entrances, kitchens and workspaces.
Thanks to its compact cell structure, the vegan leather is not only extremely abrasion-resistant, but also very scratch-resistant. The surface can therefore withstand even the heaviest loads and protects floors from intensive wear and tear. Even street shoes, small pebbles, moisture and salt water pose no problem for a cork carpet
